If you must fast around others it is wise to not make a fuss about it. Typically, people do not understand fasting and even when they have some familiarity with the subject their opinions and wild speculation can become a bit daunting to undertake along with the fast itself.
A fast of this type typically should not exceed 3 days and is not suggested for someone not familiar with other types of fasting techniques or having never fasted before.
