Instructions:

In order for the cumin seeds to release their oils and beneficial properties they need to be broken up. You can use a mortar and pestle, but it’s less work with a coffee bean grinder. The little countertop versions work just fine. About $20.

If you have neither of those you can use the bottom of a mug to gently break open the cumin seeds or you can place the whole cumin seeds alone in a covered pot of boiling water. Let the cumin seeds boil in the water for 15 minutes.

What you want to release is the cumin extract. To much boiling causes the extract to evaporate. To little, doesn’t release enough extract for the herb to be effective.

The general rule for making herbal teas is that hard woods, barks and seeds get a rolling boil with the ingredient in the pot for at least 15 minutes depending on the toughness. Soft herbs and leaves get added to covered water after boiling. Remove the pot from the heat source and let the herbs sit for the required time.

With that said, allow the cumin to boil then reduce the heat to low. The heat and steam will work to release the cumin extract. Keep the heat just low enough to maintain steam. You want to keep as much water as possible. One hour is fine, however two hours is suggested to yield the most extract.

Finding something to do where it’s not on your mind typically gives it enough time.

At this point combine all the ingredients except the lemon juice. Let the tea sit for 45 minutes to one hour. Add the lemon juice, then stir and let sit 30 to 45 minutes.

You now have a homemade ayurvedic weight loss tea recipe. Strain the tea, drink and enjoy. Add a little cayenne pepper if you like to give it a heating effect and to assist circulation. You may drink this diet tea up to 4 times a day to help with your weight release. The tea lasts in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days.
